Play-Doh's history began in the 1930s as a non-toxic wallpaper cleaner invented by Noah McVicker for his family's Kutol Products company. When vinyl wallpaper made the cleaner obsolete in the 1950s, McVicker's sister-in-law, a nursery school teacher, discovered its potential as a modelling compound for children. With the product rebranded and marketed to schools, then national retailers and children's television shows, Play-Doh quickly became the iconic children's toy it is today
