Starting a new hobby can feel like a lot to take in. This short guide covers the basics of painting your first Warhammer miniatures.
Start with the miniatures
Browse our Warhammer range to find kits for Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar. Choose a force or character that you like the look of, as that will keep you motivated while you paint.
Understand the paint types
Citadel paints are split into types that each do a different job:
- Base paints give solid, smooth coverage.
- Layer paints add lighter highlights on top of base colours.
- Shade paints flow into recesses to add depth.
- Contrast paints combine base and shade in a single coat.
- Technical paints create special effects.
You can see the whole range in our Citadel paints and accessories.
Brushes, glue and scenery
A good brush makes a big difference. You will also need plastic glue to assemble your kits, and you can add terrain and scenery for your gaming table.
Other hobbies
If you enjoy building as well as painting, our scale model kits are a great next step, including Airfix and Revell.
